Getting Started with EQUIP Component Toolkit (Webstart version)
Preparing your machine(s)
Operating System
For best results we suggest Microsoft Windows (2000 or above) as the
OS: quite a lot of the current components depend on this, or are better
supported on this. However you can try at your own risk on other
platforms.
Pre-requisites
Infrastructure
- Java WebStart, and run-time environment. We are currently working
with Java 1.4.2 or similar.
Component dependencies
- Phidgets.com USB drivers, Phidget.msi,
for PhidgquipFactory Phidget interface components.
- Java Media Framework v.2, http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/download.html,
for JMFVideoCaptureManager video capture (for video framework).
- You will also need to ensure that your video capture device(s)
are registered with the JMF registry before they will be visible to the
capture component - see the JMF Start menu options.
- Javax Comm (serial line support), http://java.sun.com/products/javacomm/downloads/index.html,
for SmartITFactory.
- Make sure that you follow the installation instructions for
java v.1.2 and above, not 1.1 (unless you have java 1.1, of course :-)
- If you want to use the atomblogger then you sign up with the
(free) www.blogger.com. Once you
have made your blob you should find the blog ID number in at least one
page URL. The corresponding posting URL for the atomblogger component
is then (currently) "http://www.blogger.com/atom/YOURBLOGID". You can
do this after installing the infrastructure. There may or may not be a
blog configured into the atom blogger component by default.
Running
