Howell Istance is a principal lecturer in the department of computer science at De Montfort University. He is currently working on the evaluation of in-world navigation aids for immersive environments, based on the MaPS system presented at VRML 97. His background is in human factors and his other research interests cover eyebased interaction with graphical environments.

Kulwinder Kaur is currently writing up her PhD. thesis on 'Designing virtual environments for usability', at City University, London, and plans to submit May 1998. Her thesis involves the development of user interface design guidelines for virtual environments, using interaction modelling as a theoretical base. A natural extension of the work is the development of evaluation methods for virtual environments, informed by the interface guidelines. Kulwinder Kaur received a BSc in Business Computing Systems, in June 1994.

Jolanda Tromp currently works on the EU ACTS Programme COVEN (ACTS N. AC040). Jolanda is involved in longitudinal usability evaluations of collaborative virtual environments, such MASSIVE, DIVE, and the COVEN Platform. She has a background in design, and a Bsc in Psychology. She is pursuing a PhD in Manufacturing Engineering, focusing on small-group collaboration support in VEs. Jolanda Tromp has been actively involved in addressing and solving multi-user, 3D design and evaluation issues since 1995.
