(Research - System) How to write on the blackboard

Contents

The interface to the blackboard has been simplified.

(warning) You must be using view 0 or 1 in order to write on the board. Out of body views will not work.

Step One

Walk up in front of the Blackboard.

Step Two

Change your focus to the first narrow setting by pressing "p" in the graphical window until you get "Focus: narrow" at the top of the textual window.

Step Three

Move in front of the board until your focus values show 1.0 and 1.0 (see below).

A screenshot from the MASSIVE text client, with the focus values showing 1.0 and 1.0 ('O-> 1.0, O<- 1.0').

Step Four

Once you have attained the relevant values, you can display text onto the board using the text client. You type a '"' which brings up a "Say" prompt, and then you can type your message in. The line is only displayed when you press Enter. E.g.

A screenshot from the MASSIVE text client. At the 'Say' prompt, Adrian has typed 'Anything you type appears'. The last command typed shows as 'You say I can now write on the blackboard'.

and the board looks like:

The blackbaord has two lines on it: 'ADRIAN - I CAN NOW WRITE ON THE BLACKBOARD' and 'ADRIAN - ANYTHING YOU TYPE APPEARS'.

Step Five

When you have finished typing on the board, you will probably want to return to a "wide" focus setting, using the "p" key to toggle focus. You will notice that once you leave the narrow focus setting, you can no longer write on the board. This is because the right hand value has fallen below 1.0, and the only way to raise this value to 1.0 is using the narrow focus setting.

A screenshot from the MASSIVE text client. 'Focus: wide' shows near the top of the window. The focus displays as 'O-> 1.0, O<- 0.9'.

There you have it!
