(Research - Project) Inhabiting the Web Task 04/09/96

Instructions

Everybody go to the meeting world and follow the instructions below.

Your task for today involves splitting up into two groups.

Before beginning the main game for today, it is important that you are all sure you can hear each other perfectly. So within your groups orient yourselves so that you are facing each other. Grab the nearest written article or text, and in turn read to each other and give each other directions on how to change your microphone and audio panel settings until everybody is happy that sound is optimised.

The correct settings for the audio panel are an input rate of 8kHz and and output rate of 8 kHz. These values can be set using the options under the Rate pull down menu.

The balloon threshold should ensure that everyone can be heard clearly. When you speak you should see a speach cube appear in the top right of your view (assuming you are using an out of body view like view 2). This indicates that you are speaking loudly enough and should be clearly heard by everyone else. If no cube appears when you speak then please try and talk louder until the cube appears. Always try and make the cube appear every time you speak.

You must at all times move from one room to the next as a group. While you are in a room you may move around indiviually as long as you are together again before leaving the room. Only one member of the team is allowed to be "active" in each room. A different person should become the "active" member when you change rooms. This is a competitive game so it is to your advantage to avoid being overheard by the other team where possible.

Group 1 go to the presentation room and group 2 go to the project room. There you will find directions for continuation of the task. Write down any unusual or relevant information.

When you think you have everything go to the Games world.

The goal of the task can be found in the maze.
