I've been subscribed and lurking for quite a while on this list, but I
finally made the time to introduce myself and TAPPED IN.
I work at TAPPED IN (primary sponsors SRI International and the National
Science Foundation). TAPPED IN is a virtual teacher professional
development center. Our underlying technology is MOO, but we've done a
lot to extend its functionality and improve the interface. (You can
login through a java applet that we've developed or regular MOO text
clients.)
Our online community has been growing rapidly over the last year and we
have ~2500 members. We offer online classes (with credit provided
through different universities) and online resources for teachers as well
as a great deal of other online activities and events. We are exploring
new models for professional development and online communities. I'll
keep this email fairly short and not go into detail about our model and
